The Getty Center

Drew will tell you, I’ve been wanting to go to the Getty Center ever since I moved to California.  I’ve seen photos and I wanted to know if it’s really as gorgeous there as the pictures say.  Since I had to go up to LA to pick up my visa for my upcoming trip to China, I decided this was as good a time as any to finally go to the Getty.  It did not disappoint.  I loved it!  We arrived just before 2pm and stayed until it closed at 5:30pm.  I could have been there all day.  Next time, I will definitely give myself more time.

First, we looked at the exhibits.  There was a cool one on old texts (so elaborate!).  Then, we saw an exhibit on how some sculptures were made.  I don’t have pics, but who knew it was so complicated?  My favorite two exhibits was one on the painter on Gerome, who was a french painter that painted in a style that made his paintings look like photographs.  It was so amazing!  From a few feet away, I really wouldn’t have been able to tell whether they were photos or paintings.  My other favorite was a photography exhibit on photojournalists.  It’s truly amazing how photographs can capture emotions.

The best part of the Getty, though, I must say, is on the outside.  It sits on a hill and the view is beautiful.  The architecture is gorgeous and the gardens are beautiful.  There were so many interesting angles, everywhere I looked, I wanted to take another pictures.  There is a wonderful terrace where you can sit and eat and enjoy the view.  There are also large lawns where next time, I will be sure to bring a picnic.  All in all, Drew and I had an amazing time and I absolutely recommend everyone to go.
