Portland Day 3

I’m such a bad blogger. Never put up Day 3 of our portland trip! Well, we started the day with a hearty breakfast at Broder, a Swedish breakfast place. It was delicious. The danish pancakes were super fluffy and not dry at all, and my apple fritters were perfectly done. Drew’s scramble was also really yummy, not runny and not overcooked. It’s also a super cute place.

After breakfast, we walked over to Stumptown Annex for their daily coffee tasting, which they call cupping. It’s an interesting event and the guys running it obviously LOVE coffee. Drew really liked tasting all the varieties, I don’t care so much for black coffee and couldn’t really tell the difference. Still, I think if you like coffee, this is a fun thing to do.

I think we spent the whole day eating or drinking as our next stop was the food trucks downtown. Who knew portland had this huge food truck community? There were all kinds of food. We went for a ethiopian one and a mexican one. The food was ok. Not great, but pretty cheap and I like supporting individual businesses. The people running the trucks were also super friendly.

Our only non-food related event was the Chinese Garden. It’s modeled on a classical Chinese garden and though very small, it was very pretty. We had a great tour guide who managed to give us a 30 minute tour of a place that seriously takes 5 minutes to walk through. We also got some tea or the tea house in the garden.

After a quick stop at our hotel, we headed out for dinner. I had read so many great things about our dinner stop so I had really high expectations. It is a thai place called Pok Pok. Even though it was a Friday night, we showed up early enough to get seated immediately. We ordered a noodle salad, a curry, and fried chicken wings with fish sauce. Those chicken wings are soooo good! They really are as good as everyone says. And all the other dishes are tasty too. I think the best part is that it’s not a typical thai place, there is no pad thai so you get to taste some new dishes in thai cuisine.

All in all, we had a great trip. I would definitely come back again, if for nothing more than the food :) And if you’re looking for a place to stay, I highly recommend the Ace.
