friends and food

This summer Drew is doing an internship in Mountain View. 7 hours drive away. This means I’m pretty much on my own for 12 weeks. I like to think I’m a pretty independent person, but I have to admit it’s hard to not feel lonely. The weekdays are actually more appealing now since I’m busy during them. I’m pretty lucky though, with great friends and family nearby, I don’t think I’ll be bored.
This weekend for example, I drove up to LA and met up with an old friend. Alejandra lives in New York so we don’t get to see each other very often so when I saw she was heading west, I jumped at the chance to meet up. We decided to get some lunch and she suggested somewhere in Venice and I suggested Gjelina. It’s a place I’ve been meaning to try. I got the smoked trout with poached eggs and Ale got a fried egg sandwich on brioche. I think they were both delicious. and in a place as busy as this, the service was pretty good!
After brunch, we walked a bit on Abbot Kinney before Nick picked her up. I really like this street. There’s a ton of cute shops and bakeries and great coffee at Intelligentsia. After walking off some calories, I drove up to Santa Monica Place for a little shopping. It was my first time at the 3rd street Promenade and it’s really nice! I wish there was a street like that here in the OC. It’s basically a pedestrian road with lots of restaurants and shops. On my way home, I stopped at Bruxie in Orange for a waffle sandwich and at Bruery Provisions for some country pate. AND if that wasn’t enough food for the day, Ruth made peach pie and shared. YUM. All in all, a good saturday with friends and food :) Next weekend, I’m going up to the Bay area to visit Drew ( YAY YAY!!!) for the 4th of July so it’ll be another weekend of family, fun, and food. Maybe this summer won’t be so bad after all :p
