Shopping and Good Eats at the OC Mart Mix

April 28, 2012 § Leave a comment

Last summer I started coming to the OC Mart Mix for Portola Coffee.  They make my favorite iced mocha.  Back then most of the space was still empty but recently, it’s really gotten going.  Now there’s a cheese shop, gelato shop, sushi, and waffle sandwich place a la Bruxie.  In addition, there’s several interesting shops that sell things ranging from bicycles to clothes to what I call hipster antiques.  On Saturdays there’s also a small farmer’s market in the parking lot.  The market itself isn’t particularly exciting, but they do also invite several of my favorite food trucks so I might add it to our brunch rotation :)  In any case, it’s a neat little place, definitely worth checking out.

meet my new camera bag!

July 24, 2011 § Leave a comment

Next week I’m leaving on a trip to go to Seattle, St. Louis, and New York.  I want to take my camera with me everywhere, but I don’t want to LOOK like I have my big dslr with me everywhere. SO! I’ve been looking high and low for a bag that will not scream BIG FANCY CAMERA.  Especially since I have a brand new one coming my way this week!  Anyhow, so meet my new favorite bag!  (or I really should say two bags.)

Originally, I thought about getting one of those Kelly Moore bags.  They’re pretty fashionable, but even the smallest one seemed too big for me and my petite frame.  Instead, I found the ONA camera bag insert.  At $60, it’s not cheap.  But, it’s the perfect size to hold my Nikon D80 with a lens attached and 1 extra lens.  It also has pockets for credit cards, SD cards, and lens caps.  And, since it’s an insert, it turns any bag that fits into a camera bag!  For me, I wanted to find something just big enough for the insert (so that the bag isn’t too big) but also had a pocket or two that could hold my iphone and keys.

Enter this little gem of a bag from H&M.  I’ll freely admit, the quality isn’t superb, but since I really only would use this bag on vacations, it doesn’t seem that big a deal.  Plus, it’s only $25.  It has a top handle as well as a longer strap so you can wear it crossbody.  There is also an outside pocket that would hold my keys and cell phone.  As a bonus, my ipad fits too!  All around, it’s just a little bigger than the green bag I carry around everyday.  So for ladies out there who don’t want to carry around a big, ugly camera bag, I highly recommend an insert! dslr bagdslr bagdslr bagdslr bagdslr bag

flats that won’t break the bank

I’m shoe obsessed.  It’s probably a good thing that my feet are just too darn small to fit into most regular shoes that don’t come in a size 4, otherwise, Drew and I might need to move into an even smaller apartment.  For those of you more blessed than me, I’ve found that Aldo is not a bad place for some on-trend shoes that won’t decimate the bank account (lots of options on sale as well).  These are my favorite flats, but they have some cute sandals as well and it’s free shipping over $100 and 10% off if you sign up for their newsletter.

Blog Update!

I tried tumblr for a while, but it just wasn’t working out.
Their servers would go down, the template I liked was buggy, and in the end it just didn’t serve the purposes of this particular blog very well.  SO! we’re back on wordpress!  I’ll be editing this site a bit more in the coming days, but no major changes.  If you subscribe to Things An Likes, have no fear, you don’t have to do anything as the feed address has not changed.  Since word posts are boring, here are some photos on film of the Portland Japanese Garden.
